BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Ahmad Deeb

Dr. Ahmad Deeb is an Imam, teacher, and community psychologist whose work bridges classical Islamic scholarship, mental health, and community development. He has lectured across the world, including at prestigeous Universities such as Yale and Princeton.

Upbringing and Education

Raised in Orlando, he began serving Muslim communities at an early age under the mentorship of his father, Shaykh Abdallah Deeb. His grandfather, Shaykh Ramadan Deeb, was among the most respected sage-scholars of Syria and passed away in December 2025.

Alongside traditional seminary training and spiritual tutelage, Dr. Deeb holds a B.A. in Psychology and an M.A. in Islamic Studies and Leadership. His master’s thesis, Re-forming Islamic Reform: Maʿlūm min al-Dīn bi’l-Ḍarūra, the Theology of Law, and the Epistemological Limits of Ijtihād, examined the intersection of theology and law with the aim of articulating a principled framework for Muslim unity in the modern age.

His academic and communal interests led him to pursue a PhD in Community Psychology. His dissertation, Remosqued: Loneliness, Governance, and Psychological Sense of Community in the American Masjid, remains the only empirical scientific study to date examining loneliness and sense of community among Muslims in the United States.

His most recent publication, Staying Human: A Muslim Philosophy of Belonging and Community, distills some key findings from his dissertation while introducing his broader work of articulating a vision for rebuilding meaning, belonging, and social cohesion in modern Muslim life and community spaces.

Professional Work

Dr. Deeb is the co-founder and instructor at Pillars Seminary, an online, structured, part-time seminary program designed to provide rigorous and coherent Islamic education while preparing students for advanced study in established seminaries in the United States and Damascus. It is committed to accessibility, and no student is ever turned down for funds. It also focuses on introducing the biggest questions about Islam and addressing the most pressing concerns Muslims have in the first year, with hopes of elevating the standard for religious literacy.

He is also the co-founder of Itqaan Institute, which offers premier Qur’an education under the leadership of his father, Shaykh Abdallah Deeb, a globally recognized authority in Tajwīd.

Dr. Deeb currently resides in Damascus, where he teaches at the seminary, offers remote pastoral counseling, and works as a consultant with Khalil Center. His expertise in community development has led to consulting and training partnerships across the United States, where he regularly travels to teach and advise institutions.
